Britney Spears & Elton John’s Duet is Coming!

The rumors were true! Elton John and Britney Spears Duet is happening. A Universal Music’s Interscope Records representative has recently confirmed the highly rumored remake of Elton John’s 1972 single “Tiny dancer”. The official title “Hold me closer” is borrowed from the chorus of the same legendary 1972 single.

Elton John also shared the single’s symbolic artwork on social media. It features a rocket and a rose under the song title. The rocket and rose represent both artists (‍🚀 for Elton John and 🌹 for Britney).  Everything else including the release date is yet to be announced.

Ed Sheeran Drops Four New Tracks on the ‘=’ Tour Edition

Ed Sheeran fans can never get enough of his music. Fortunately, there are now four more tracks to stream.

Ed Sheeran’s latest album, =, is getting a “tour edition.” The Fall 2021 release, pronounced Equals, has been updated with the addition of nine new tracks. Two songs from the extended version are brand new, “Welcome to the World” and “I Will Remember You,” while two others are from the 2019 film Yesterday, in which the singer also appeared. Those tracks, “Penguins” and “One Life,” were never officially released.

The “tour edition” of the album also includes the previously released collaborations “The Joker and the Queen” with Taylor Swift; “Peru” with Fireboy DML; “Bad Habits” with Bring Me the Horizon, which they performed together at the 2022 BRIT Awards; and his new single with Lil Baby, “2Step,” which includes a video shot in Kyiv, Ukraine before the Russian invasion.

Earlier this year, Sheeran collaborated with J Balvin on two songs, “Forever My Love” and “Sigue.” He also joined Camila Cabello in “Bam Bam,” a single for Cabello’s new album Familia. Ed Sheeran is now on tour in the United Kingdom, with plans to continue around Europe during the summer and autumn.

Sheeran also recently released the sixth official remix of ‘2step,’ this time with Australian rising artist Budjerah, after remixes with Ellinoora, Antytila, 1.Cuz, and Ultimo.

Sheeran met Budjerah, an R&B singer-songwriter from the coastal community of Fingal Head, New South Wales, at the 2021 ARIA Awards, where he received the Breakthrough Artist award.

Budjerah’s remix of ‘2step’ was followed by remixes by artists such as Leto, Chefin from Brazil, Reezy from Germany, and Denise Chaila from Ireland.

Last November, Sheeran’s fourth No. 1 album debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 list. In his own country, he boasts a perfect five-from-five chart record.

Justin Timberlake Sells Entire Music Catalog

Justin Timberlake has sold the rights of all his previously released tracks to Hipgnosis Song Management, joining the bulk of megastars who have sold their music catalogs recently.

Hipgnosis Song Management has acquired all of Timberlake’s rights, including those to songs like ‘Rock Your Body,’ ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling,’ and ‘SexyBack.’ The agreement covers Timberlake’s publishing rights but not his recording rights, which include songs he wrote or co-wrote.

Some of NSYNC’s best-known songs, such as ‘It’s Gonna Be Me’ and ‘Bye Bye Bye,’ are not included in the sale since he was not a writer on them, but the bulk of his solo work is. The sale’s financial terms have not been disclosed.

“I am excited to be partnering with [Hipgnosis’s CEO and founder] Merck [Mercuriadis] and Hipgnosis – he values artists and their creative work and has always been a strong supporter of songwriters and storytelling,” Timberlake said in a statement (via Rolling Stone). I look forward to entering this next chapter.”

“Justin’s incredible catalog will join other amazing works at Hipgnosis, which we know will serve as a great steward of his work,” Mercuriadis said. “We look forward to a great partnership between Justin and Hipgnosis.”

Timberlake is one of several musicians whose song catalogs have been sold in recent years. Pop superstars such as Bruno Mars and Ryan Tedder have also sold their publishing rights, but the pattern is most prevalent among older artists who have left their musical careers in the hands of music firms while pocketing enormous sums of money for themselves and their families.

In the last year, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan have sold their publishing and recording rights for hundreds of millions of dollars, while Pink Floyd is apparently looking to sell their catalog for a similar sum.

Leonard Cohen’s estate agreed to an undisclosed sum with the Hipgnosis Songs Fund earlier this year.

According to Rolling Stone, the contract includes all 278 songs written by Cohen, including his most known songs “Suzanne,” “Hallelujah,” “So Long, Marianne,” “First We Take Manhattan,” and others.

Hipgnosis has spent more than $2 billion purchasing the rights to songs by renowned artists like Blondie, Neil Young, Shakira, producer Bob Rock, Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie, and many more.

Doja Cat Pulls Out of the Weeknd Tour and 2022 Festival Shows for Tonsil Surgery

Doja Cat went to social media on Friday (May 20) to share that her scheduled tour with The Weeknd and festival appearances this summer will be canceled due to a medical surgery she had on her tonsils.

“Hi guys. I wanted you to hear it from me first, “I wanted you to hear it from me first,” she began the message in white text on a black background. “Unfortunately I have to have surgery on my tonsils asap. The surgery is routine but the recovery is going to take awhile due to swelling. That means I have to cancel my festival run this summer as well as The Weeknd tour. I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for y’all.”

On Thursday, Doja took to Twitter to explain the procedure to her fans in detail and cautioned that some “bad news” might be on the way.

She tweeted, “Dr. just had to cut into my left tonsil. I had an abscess in it. My whole throat is f—ed so I might have some bad news for yall coming soon.”

She revealed that her tonsils were infected just before the 2022 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night. “I was taking f—in antibiotics but forgot that i was taking them and then i drank wine and was vaping all day long and then i started getting a nasty growth on my tonsil so they had to do surgery on it today” she tweeted.

Doja Cat was confirmed as a special guest on The Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn tour back in March. Both are managed by Wassim “Sal” Slaiby of SALXCO. The tour begins on July 8 in Toronto and ends on September 2 in Los Angeles.

Doja was scheduled to perform at several summer music festivals, including the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama, on Saturday (May 21), and the Glastonbury Festival in the United Kingdom on June 22.

Doja Cat was the top female finalist at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, with 14 nominations. She won top female R&B artist, top R&B artist, top R&B album for Planet Her, and top viral single for “Kiss Me More” with SZA.

Halsey Claims Their Label Won’t Release New Song Unless They ‘Fake a Viral Moment on TikTok’

Last week, Halsey posted a TikTok from backstage at their tour rehearsals, hinting that new music might be on the way.

The singer head-banged to an untitled snippet in the video, which was almost unhearable but had the atmospheric rock mood that colored their most recent album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power.

Over the weekend, the track was resurfaced with crystal clear audio — but it wasn’t quite the tease fans might have expected.

Halsey revealed in a TikTok clip that while the song and video have been completed for over a month, her label will not allow them to release it until they can fake a viral moment on TikTok.

See the TikTok video below for a snippet of the new song.

Taking to their TikTok page, the singer said in a post titled “I’m tired” that there is new music she wants to release “ASAP,” but that “marketing” is getting in the way and the label won’t let her share the new song.

The singer took to their TikTok page to say that while they have new music they want to release “ASAP,” marketing is getting in the way and her label won’t let her release the new song.

“My record company is saying that I can’t release it unless they can fake a viral moment on TikTok,” Halsey said.

“Everything is marketing,” she continued. “And they [the label] are doing this to basically every artist these days.”

Halsey revealed in March that she was writing new songs and planned to create a “pop album” for their next release.

The singer announced the news on her Instagram Stories, posting: “Due to personal reasons I will be making a pop album.”

“I have an incredible song that I could put out as a single for radio next but I feel like that’s insane to do bc I haven’t even toured iichliwp [‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’] yet idk,” she captioned a later post. “I actually have a few. Idk what to dooooo.”

The pop star is currently signed to Capitol Records under the Universal Music Group. “Our belief in Halsey as a singular and important artist is total and unwavering. We can’t wait for the world to hear their brilliant new music,” said a Capitol Music Group representative to Rolling Stone in a statement.

The viral video, which has been viewed over 7.7 million times since it was posted, includes a comment section packed with users who believe they’ve cracked the music industry’s code — that Halsey’s video in which she complains about having to create TikToks for marketing is actually the one she made for marketing.

“Bruh, I wish it was,” the singer replied to one user. “They just said I have to post TikToks; they didn’t specifically say ‘about what’ so here I am.” She then responded to another comment that the label’s request was for six TikTok posts.

Lil Nas X to Be Honoured at 2022 Songwriters Hall of Fame Ceremony

The 2022 Songwriters Hall of Fame will honor Lil Nas X next month.

The rapper and pop star will receive the Hal David Starlight Award on June 16 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City, which is given to “gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry via their original songs.”

Previous honorees include Taylor Swift, Drake, Halsey, Ed Sheeran, Benny Blanco, Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds, Sara Bareilles, John Legend, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, and others. The award was established in 2004 to recognize SHOF chairman emeritus Hal David for his support of emerging songwriters.

“Lil Nas X is someone we are very proud to award the Hal David Starlight Award to,” said Nile Rodgers, chair of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. “He has perhaps better than anyone demonstrated how powerful great songs are, with ‘Old Town Road’ and ‘Montero’ dominating the charts for almost every day of the last three years.”

“If you’re lucky enough to be alive at this time, you know exactly who Lil Nas X is and he’s an incredible and inspirational person for every one of his communities as well.”

Nas’ first single, “Old Town Road,” was notably recorded for $50 in a simple Atlanta studio and went on to become the Billboard Hot 100’s longest-running No. 1 hit. Instead of becoming a one-hit-wonder, he has taken his music and stardom in unexpected directions, branching out from the country-hip-hop of his 2019 debut into R&B, rock, and other genres.

Since then, he’s had hits with his “Montero” album and single, as well as “Industry Baby,” a collaboration with Jack Harlow that topped the Billboard Hot 100 last fall. In September, Nas will embark on his first national tour.

Lil Nas X revealed last month that he’ll be on the road, with a few European tour dates planned for the end of the year.

His ‘Long Live Montero’ tour will begin in North America on September 6 at The Fillmore in Detroit and will stop in Chicago, Nashville, Los Angeles, and other cities before concluding on October 23 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

The ‘Industry Baby’ hitmaker will then embark on a European tour, which will begin in Amsterdam on November 8 and will include stops in Berlin, Paris, Brussels, and Hamburg, before concluding in Barcelona, Spain, on November 17.

Harry Styles Finally Releases His Third Album “Harry’s House”

After two months of social media teasing, a refreshing single, and a successful Coachella headline concert, Harry Styles has finally released his third album. As of Friday (May 20), Harry’s House is now available for streaming.

“As It Was,” the album’s lead single, preceded the arrival of Harry’s House. Following its April 1 release, the song soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, where it remained for three weeks.

Styles performed Harry’s House singles “As It Was,” “Boyfriends,” “Late Night Talking,” and the previously unreleased track “Daylight” on TODAY, the day before his third solo album was released, starting off the morning show’s annual summer concert series. He also spoke with Hoda Kotb, Carson Daly, and Savannah Guthrie about the album, emphasizing that Harry’s House is his most heartfelt release to date.

“I feel like it’s kind of a collection of all of my favorite things and very much like the album I’ve always wanted to make, so I’m really happy,” Styles added. “I think for me, it’s definitely the most personal record I think I’ve made. It was definitely the most intimately made thing I’ve done so far. Obviously, the pandemic and everything kind of added to the way it was made. It was made by a few people in a small room. “

At the Rockefeller Plaza show, a fan also asked about the most challenging song he had to write. His response, as revealed by TODAY’s hosts? “Boyfriends.”

“There was a lot of different versions of it,” the Grammy winner said. “We were trying to work out what the best version for the album was. There was, like, different guitars and different vocal arrangements.

Harry Styles has shattered Apple Music’s first-day streaming record, breaking Kendrick Lamar’s 2022 mark in less than two hours.

Following the release of Harry’s House on Apple Music and in advance of a live-streamed performance on the platform, Apple Music tweeted that Harry’s House received the most first-day streams for a pop album launched in 2022 in its first two hours.

Styles shattered a record that had only been standing for just one week after Kendrick Lamar set a new 2022 record for first-day streams last Friday.

Styles totally exceeded this, breaking Lamar’s record in 180 minutes and undoubtedly setting an exceedingly high score to beat for the rest of the year.

Taylor Swift Receives an Honorary Degree From NYU

After gracing the stage alongside New York University’s class of 2022, Taylor Swift and her smash hit “22” takes on a whole new meaning.

On Wednesday, the Grammy-winning singer and songwriter received a Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa, from the Manhattan-based university, where she delivered the commencement speech with a timely joke.

“I’m 90 percent sure the reason I’m here is because I have a song called ’22,'” Swift joked, adding that she was thrilled to be there.

The commencement ceremony was held at Yankee Stadium in a “doubleheader” event that honored the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022.

After receiving the accolade, Taylor Swift went up to the podium to deliver a 20-minute speech, during which she shared personal stories, imparted life lessons from her career, and reassured everyone that making mistakes is unavoidable.

“Hi, I’m Taylor,” Swift said as she began her commencement speech. “Last time I was in a stadium this size, I was dancing in heels and wearing a glittery leotard. This outfit is much more comfortable.”

Swift entered the stadium just like the other graduates, in a doctoral gown and a red lip while making peace signs and waving to everyone before taking her place among the rest of the commencement platform party.

The singer gave a speech to the class of 2022 on behalf of other honorary degree recipients, notably Judith Heumann, a lifetime disability rights activist who received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.

Swift has been angling for an honorary doctorate degree for a long time. In a 2016 Vogue 73 Questions interview that was uploaded to YouTube, she was asked to name a goal she’s determined to accomplish during her life.

“I really want an honorary doctorate degree, because Ed Sheeran has one, and I feel like he looks down on me now ’cause I don’t have one,” said the “Wildest Dreams” singer in the video.

Swift also jokingly said, “I’d like to thank NYU for making me technically, on paper at least, a doctor. Not the type of doctor you would want around in the case of an emergency, unless your specific emergency was that you desperately needed to hear a song with a catchy hook and an intensely cathartic bridge section.”

At the conclusion of her speech, Taylor Swift offered encouragement, using her new degree as a co-sign of her qualifications.

“Hard things will happen to us, we will recover, we will learn from it. We will grow more resilient because of it,” Swift said. “As long as we are fortunate enough to be breathing, we will breathe in, breathe through, breathe deep, (and) breathe out — I’m a doctor now so I know how breathing works.”
