Avril Lavigne Teases ‘Sk8er Boi’ Movie That Will Take Hit Song ‘to the Next Level’

Avril Lavigne is bringing one of her most well-known songs to the big screen.

The 37-year-old singer is turning her hit track “Sk8er Boi” from 2002 into a feature film. Lavigne told the She Is the Voice podcast that she hopes to make a movie to honor the single’s 20th anniversary.

“Recently with it being almost the 20th anniversary, a lot of people have been asking me to play this song on some TV shows, so it keeps getting brought back up and people will always reference it to me,” Lavigne remarked.

She added that “Sk8er Boi” is one of her favorite songs to sing live and said, “I’m actually going to turn this song into a film… and take it to the next level. “

“Sk8er Boi” was inspired by Lavigne’s own high school experience, she told She Is the Voice, who wrote the song when she was only 17 years old.

“You know what it was like in high school, you have all the different groups and cliques, and there’s like skaters, preps, jocks,” she said. “It’s kind of like a missed opportunity at love.”

Lavigne added that “The skater boy is in love with the preppy girl but like she’s too cool for him but then five years from now she’s feeding the baby and she’s all alone and she wishes she would have followed her heart and not tried to live up to society’s expectations.”

The singer did not provide any other information on the “Sk8er Boi” movie, but it will be based on the music video she made for the song, which tells the story of a ballet dancer who secretly loves a future rock star but rejects him due to his “skater boy” look.

In 2003, “Sk8er Boi” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, and it was ranked No. 5 on Spin Magazine’s list of the best pop-punk choruses of the twenty-first century.

In addition to the film, Avril Lavigne will release a new album next year.

Brad Pitt Is Officially Starting a New Career in the Music Industry

Brad Pitt is officially starting a new career in the music industry.

After a thorough redesign, the 57-year-old actor has partnered with Emmy-winning music producer Damien Quintard to revive Miraval Studios, the iconic recording facility situated at Château Miraval in Correns, France, that has held sessions for Pink Floyd, Sting, and The Cranberries.

The music studio, constructed in 1977 by Château Miraval’s then-owner Jacques Loussier, went unused for two decades until Pitt and Quintard decided to restore it to allow artists to record new material.

Quintard told The Hollywood Reporter via a Zoom conversation that he and Pitt “immediately clicked” when they met in Paris.

He remembered, “It was an intense moment where we just talked and talked about sound.  I was amazed at how sensitive and precise he was in his analysis of music.”

Much of the studio’s old recording equipment will be incorporated into a modern setting, including a desk created by Pitt and Quintard. It will also include multiple recording booths, sound and video editing workstations, rare musical instruments and synthesizers, and a mezzanine overlooking the whole studio.

The facility, according to Quintard, has “redefined a remarkable natural reverb so we can record voices or instruments anywhere in the studio. It really is a space where you can produce anything from pop and rock, to hip-hop and classical records.”

The studio is connected to a tower that can accommodate visiting musicians, so artists are never far from their work and may spend weeks on the site recording their next masterpiece. Access to the estate’s swimming pool and meals from Château Miraval’s chefs are also provided.

Château Miraval is a property near to Pitt’s heart, as fans know. The Oscar winner bought the estate in 2012 with then-partner Angelina Jolie, and the two married in the estate’s chapel in 2014.

Even though Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie split in 2016, he still owns the estate, which is known for its on-site vineyard.

“The combination of Brad’s vision for Miraval and our common passion for taking the time to make simple but beautiful things has resulted in something that is one-of-a-kind,” Quintard said. “We are so excited for musicians of all types to be a part of what we’ve created.”

Miraval Studios will officially open in the summer of 2022.

Billie Eilish Made Her “SNL” Hosting Debut

Billie Eilish returned to the Saturday Night Live stage on December 11 to serve as both host and musical guest, and she nailed both roles.

Billie, who was a musical guest on the show for the first time in 2019, began with a monologue on her look and unique style, with her new brunette hair color in full display. “Mrs. Claus going to the club,” she said of her outfit, which consisted of a flouncy, oversized white Christmas dress with red piping. She went on to say of her overall style, “Some people wonder why I started wearing baggy clothes. There was actually a good reason,” she clarified. “So it wasn’t just for comfort, or for style. This is hard to say for me, but the real reason I wore big oversized clothes back then is, I was actually two kids stacked on top of each other trying to sneak into an R-rated movie.”

Billie joked in her monologue that her childhood dream was to be in a movie, but that dream “died” after her mother wrote a script in which she cast herself and Billie’s brother Finneas, not Billie. Then Billie’s mother took the stage, wearing a sweatshirt with Finneas’ face on it.

The singer also talked about how happy she was for her upcoming 20th birthday. “It takes time and effort to accept who you really are,” Billie said. “You’ll be so happy that you did. I spent a lot of years pretending to be somebody that I’m not, basically acting.”

Billie appeared in a few holiday-themed skits throughout the show, including a “Lonely Christmas” commercial and a “Hip Hop Nativity” sketch in which she wore a feathered ’80s-style wig. She did some singing and indicated that despite her acting ambitions having “died” when she was a child, she could hold her own with the SNL team.

Billie also played two songs from her new album, Happier Than Ever, including the title track, which she sang alone before joining her band for the song’s climax. She also sang “Male Fantasy” while sitting on the floor with Finneas on guitar and dressed in a sweatshirt, shorts, and socks.

Megan Thee Stallion is officially both a savage and a scholar.

“Good morning hotties !!! “It’s graduation dayyyy,” she tweeted, adding the hashtag “#MeganTheeGraduate.” “which has since been trending on the platform and features a special emoji of Megan wearing her hat and tassel.

She shared the graduating ceremony’s live-streaming link with her combined 34 million Twitter and Instagram followers. Megan tweeted, “Hotties, you can watch me graduate today at 12:00 here,” along with some of her senior pics.

Megan earned her graduation just after 12 p.m. local time, shaking hands with Dr. Lesia Crumpton-Young, the HBCU’s 13th president. As she went off the stage, she even posed for a photo with some of the faculty.

This week, the WAP singer shared some graduation images on Instagram, which she collaborated on with Nike. “HOTTIES… I’m officially a @nike Yardrunner, y’all!” Megan shared. “I’ll be graduating from my HBCU TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY this Saturday!! I want y’all to remember that you can do whatever you wanna do and be whoever you wanna be, cause look at me!”

Despite her early success in the music industry, she previously expressed her desire to get a degree. Megan was motivated by her late mother, Holly Thomas, who passed away in March 2019 after a battle with brain cancer.

Megan said in 2020, “I want to get my degree because I really want my mom to be proud.”

Megan’s grandma died not long after she lost her mother. “I want my big mama to be proud. She saw me going to school before she passed,” she added. “My grandmother that’s still alive used to be a teacher, so she’s on my butt about finishing school. I’m doing it for me, but I’m also doing it for the women in my family who made me who I am today.”

Olivia Rodrigo Named Time Magazine’s Entertainer of the Year

Ahead of the unveiling of Time magazine’s coveted Person of the Year award for 2021, which will take place on December 13, the magazine has announced Olivia Rodrigo as its 2021 Entertainer of the Year and Simone Biles as its 2021 Athlete of the Year.

Rodrigo was on the cover of Variety’s Young Hollywood magazine this summer. She was also named Songwriter of the Year at the Hitmakers event on Saturday when she delivered a touching acceptance speech and was presented by Avril Lavigne.

“Rodrigo has a gift for picking the best of the past — whether a well-worn shirt, the faded feedback of a guitar or the intensity of first love — and finding just the right way to situate it in the present,” writes Lucy Feldman of Time in an article titled, ‘The 18-Year-Old Singer-Songwriter’s Uninhibited, Confessional Album Captured the Tone of a Turbulent Year.’

“Her songs have hit with audiences of all ages, in large part because she renders adolescence so viscerally: she’s resentful, seething, crushed, itching to just grow up already.

“Her rise to pop stardom was swift and definitive: it started on January 8, when Rodrigo, already a Disney actor with an audience, released her first single, ‘Drivers License,’ torch song that took off on TikTok and stirred up theories about who inspired it.

“By January 23, she became the youngest solo artist ever to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where her song stayed for eight weeks. By Jan. 23, she became the youngest solo artist ever to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where her song stayed for eight weeks. Soon after, Rodrigo was performing on Saturday Night Live.

“Halsey sent Rodrigo a cake, Cardi B shouted her out on Twitter, and Taylor Swift offered her props on Instagram.”

Olivia Rodrigo discusses her inspirations, such as Avril Lavigne, Lorde, and Paramore, in the article, saying, “Young women are constantly compared to each other. I’m the ‘new this’ or ‘this woman meets that woman,’ and that can be reductive … I’m just Olivia. I’m doing my own thing. It’s meaningful when people recognise that.”

Why Drake Won’t Win Any 2022 Grammys Despite Two Announced Nominations

Don’t expect Drake to win a Grammy on music’s greatest night.

The rapper has withdrawn his two Grammy nominations for 2022, according to E! News. While the reasons behind the decision are unclear, a source stated Drake and management made the decision. The Grammys eventually agreed to the request.

“The Recording Academy received a request from Drake / his management to remove his nominations from our final-round ballot, and that request has been honored,” an Academy representative told NBC News.

Carly Pearce, BTS, Jon Batiste, and H.E.R. were among the artists that presented the star-studded list of nominees on November 23. Drake was nominated for two awards, one for Best Rap Performance for “Way 2 Sexy” and the other for Best Rap Album for Certified Lover Boy.

Drake’s withdrawal of nominations was announced on December 6, the same day that voting members received their Grammy ballots. According to Variety, voting for the two rap categories in which Drake was initially nominated will continue with just four nominees, probably due to the fact that the voting session has already started.

Drake, a four-time Grammy winner, has already spoken out against the awards. Back in November 2020, the “Hotline Bling” rapper voiced his support for The Weeknd as he was snubbed of nominations.

“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after,” Drake posted on Instagram Stories.  “It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just can’t change their ways.”

He went on to say, “The other day I said @theweeknd was a lock for either album or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way. This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.”

Some fans will never forget Drake’s Grammys speech being cut short during the 2019 broadcast.

However, a source close to the situation informed E! News that when Drake won Best Rap Song for “God’s Plan,” he made a natural pause, which the producers mistook for the conclusion of the speech, and they went to commercial.

According to the source, producers approached Drake shortly after his acceptance speech and gave him the chance to continue it, but Drake replied that he was finished and satisfied.

The 2022 Grammy Awards will be held in the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on January 31, 2022.

The Weeknd Joins Forces With Euphoria Creator for HBO Cult Drama Series

The Weeknd has secured his next major project, and it’s fair to say he’s “Earned It.”

According to Variety, the Starboy performer will collaborate on the upcoming HBO series The Idol with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. Along with Levinson and his creative producer, Reza Fahim, who are both recognized as creators, he will executive produce and co-write the series.

Yes, he will star in the series, but no details on who he will portray have been released.

According to Variety, the show will depict a Los Angeles pop singer who begins dating a nightclub owner. What’s the major twist? In addition to being the owner of a nightclub, she is also the head of a cult.

The Weeknd simply re-posted the stories and tagged HBO on Instagram to confirm his involvement in the show.

This will be the artist’s first major role at the age of 31. The singer previously appeared in Adam Sandler’s Uncut Gems and guest-wrote and featured in an American Dad episode in 2020.

Uncut Gems director Josh Safdie earlier told Variety that the musician, née Abel Tesfaye, is a “real cinephile.”

“Like, one of his favorite filmmakers is (David) Cronenberg, and that makes sense because he’s from Toronto. But he watches a lot of movies,”  Abel even helped write the plot for the Adam Sandler film, according to the director.

And Benny Safdie claimed that The Weeknd and Adam got into a fistfight for the film. The director said, “He did it with Adam, the two of them, no doubles, both of them rolling around on the ground.” “Everybody wanted to get into it, really get down and dirty with us. It was heavily choreographed, but still, none of that stuff is easy.”

In other words, when The Idol premieres, fans should expect The Weeknd to give it his all.

HBO announced on Monday, Nov. 22, that the drama series, currently titled The Idol, would have a six-episode run. According to the announcement, Amy Seimetz will direct the whole first season, while The Weeknd and Lily Rose Depp will star in the show.

Barbados Declares Rihanna a National Hero

Rihanna has received a rare honor in Bridgetown, her hometown.

During the presidential inauguration event in Heroes Square on Monday night, Barbados proclaimed the ‘Diamonds’ singer a National Hero, symbolizing the country’s transition to a Commonwealth republic.

To loud applause, Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced the 33-year-hero old’s status.

Mottley summoned Rihanna out in front of the audience to congratulate her.

“On behalf of a grateful nation and an even prouder people, we therefore present to you, to the designee, a National Hero of Barbados, ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty,” Mottley added, referring to the singer by her full name.

“May you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honor to your nation by your works, by your actions,” she said, referring to Rihanna’s chart-topping track from 2012.

Prince Charles, who was also present at the event, congratulated the pop star personally.

According to Forbes magazine, the Barbadian entrepreneur became a billionaire early this year.

The magazine reported earlier this year that Rihanna is the wealthiest female artist and the second-richest woman in entertainment, after Oprah Winfrey.

The 33-year-old, who hasn’t released a new album in five years, is worth an estimated $1.7 billion thanks to her cosmetics line Fenty Beauty.

According to Forbes, Fenty Beauty is worth $2.8 billion.

Through her Savage x Fenty lingerie brand, the singer has also committed time to grow her business empire.

Little Mix Announces Indefinite Hiatus After 10 Years Together

Little Mix, the popular girl group, has announced that after ten years together, they would be taking a break at the end of their Confetti tour.

Jade Thirlwall, 28, Perrie Edwards, 28, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 30, of the British band announced on social media that they would be taking a break following their upcoming tour in April-May of next year.

In an Instagram post, Little Mix informed fans that they are “not splitting up” but are taking a break to focus on solo projects.

“It’s been 10 amazing years, a wonderful non-stop adventure, and we feel the time is right to take a break so we can recharge and work on some other projects,” Little Mix posted on Instagram.

“We can’t thank you enough for your love and never-ending support since the beginning. We adore each and every one of you. Little Mix isn’t breaking up; they’re here to stay. In the future, we have plans for additional songs, tours, and performances.

The post went on to say: “We’ve made so many incredible memories with you all, and we can’t wait to make so many more.

“We’re sisters and we’ll always have each other and you, the fans, in our lives. Little Mix is forever. See you on tour!”

The hiatus statement came less than a year after former member Jesy Nelson announced her departure from the band in 2020 after nine years.

Nelson, 30, announced the news in a December 2020 Instagram post, writing that it was time for her to “embark on a new chapter.”

Her former bandmates later said that it was “an incredibly sad time for all of us be we are fully supportive of Jesy.”

Nelson described her challenges leaping to popularity in a girl band and being adversely compared to her three bandmates in an August 2021 interview with The Guardian.

“I would be very shocked to hear of any band where everyone felt equal. I don’t think that’s possible, because you’re always going to get compared; who they think looks better, who they think sings better,” Nelson said.

“There’s always going to be one person that people think is weaker.”

After competing in the 2011 UK season of The X-Factor, the four girls started Little Mix in 2011.

All four band members had auditioned as individual singers before being paired up, similar to how mega boyband One Direction was formed in 2010.
