The wait is almost over! Stranger Things season three premiered almost three years ago. Since then, fans have awaited new episodes and answers to long-standing questions, such as what happened to Hopper (David Harbour).

However, it seems as if our patience will be repaid tenfold since the Duffer Brothers said in a letter that season four would run roughly twice as long as prior seasons. As such, it will be released in two installments: “Volume One will release on May 27; Volume Two will release five weeks later on July 1,” they added. “So that’s the good news. It’s coming soon. And it’s better than ever. It’s also the beginning of the end. “

Yes, you read that right. Even though Netflix had initially planned to end its Stranger Things series with Season 4, the show’s writers have said that they have changed their minds because “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes.”

“But first we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down,” they added. “As always, we are grateful for your patience and support.”

Netflix teased the announcement with a mysterious billboard saying, “Every ending has a beginning.”

Stranger Things got renewed for a fourth season in September of this year. And, thanks to an enticing Twitter teaser, it seemed clear that the new season would take place outside of Indiana town. “We’re not in Hawkins anymore,” read the caption.

David Harbour told Deadline that season four would be “very epic and very big in a Stranger Things way.” The lead actor promised monsters, terror, scares, and “great Indiana Jones-type action.”

Additionally, fans can expect additional details about Hopper’s past.

The Duffer Brothers stated in the letter that Stranger Things’ fifth season would be its last. “Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things,” they wrote. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but—as you’ll soon see for yourselves—we are now hurtling toward our finale.”
