Why Drake Won’t Win Any 2022 Grammys Despite Two Announced Nominations

Don’t expect Drake to win a Grammy on music’s greatest night.

The rapper has withdrawn his two Grammy nominations for 2022, according to E! News. While the reasons behind the decision are unclear, a source stated Drake and management made the decision. The Grammys eventually agreed to the request.

“The Recording Academy received a request from Drake / his management to remove his nominations from our final-round ballot, and that request has been honored,” an Academy representative told NBC News.

Carly Pearce, BTS, Jon Batiste, and H.E.R. were among the artists that presented the star-studded list of nominees on November 23. Drake was nominated for two awards, one for Best Rap Performance for “Way 2 Sexy” and the other for Best Rap Album for Certified Lover Boy.

Drake’s withdrawal of nominations was announced on December 6, the same day that voting members received their Grammy ballots. According to Variety, voting for the two rap categories in which Drake was initially nominated will continue with just four nominees, probably due to the fact that the voting session has already started.

Drake, a four-time Grammy winner, has already spoken out against the awards. Back in November 2020, the “Hotline Bling” rapper voiced his support for The Weeknd as he was snubbed of nominations.

“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after,” Drake posted on Instagram Stories.  “It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just can’t change their ways.”

He went on to say, “The other day I said @theweeknd was a lock for either album or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way. This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.”

Some fans will never forget Drake’s Grammys speech being cut short during the 2019 broadcast.

However, a source close to the situation informed E! News that when Drake won Best Rap Song for “God’s Plan,” he made a natural pause, which the producers mistook for the conclusion of the speech, and they went to commercial.

According to the source, producers approached Drake shortly after his acceptance speech and gave him the chance to continue it, but Drake replied that he was finished and satisfied.

The 2022 Grammy Awards will be held in the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on January 31, 2022.

Kanye West Finally Releases Donda Album

Kanye West did it—fashionably late—at long last.

On Sunday, Aug. 29, the 44-year-old rapper and designer released Donda, his long-awaited 10th studio album, more than a month after its planned release date and three huge listening parties later, the most recent of which had his soon-to-be ex-wife Kim Kardashian onstage in a wedding gown.

Donda, which has religious elements and is named for Kanye’s late mother, was released on Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Spotify. The album includes 27 songs, including the title track, which features Ariana Grande‘s surprising backing vocals. It’s her first time working with Kanye West. The track “Believe What I Say,” which borrows Lauryn Hill’s 1998 smash “Doo Wop (That Thing),” is also included on the album.

Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Chris Brown, Kid Cudi, Playboi Carti, Young Thug, The Lox, late rapper Pop Smoke, and Jay-Z, who contributed a verse to the tune “Jail,” are among the other artists included on Donda.

Along with many others, the latter is credited as a co-writer of the song. Marilyn Manson, a.k.a. Brian Warner, was one among those who attended Kanye’s most recent listening party in Chicago.

Donda also includes a follow-up song, “Jail pt 2,” which was unable to stream for the first few hours after its release. Both Manson and rapper DaBaby, whose actual name is Jonathan Kirk and who also attended the party, are credited as co-writers of the song.

Dixie D’Amelio on Drawing Inspiration from Her Life for ‘Psycho’ Music Video

Dixie D’Amelio, the popular TikTok star, released her heavily hyped “Psycho” music video at a premiere launch party sponsored by Triller on Thursday.

“Psycho,” the follow-up to her May hit “F—boy,” is D’Amelio’s first co-written song, and it also features rapper Rubi Rose.

While talking to PEOPLE magazine, Dixie D’Amelio said that “I just love visual lyrics. I love something that I can hear and then totally set a scene. And I feel like ‘Psycho’ really does that.”

The singer also confesses to sometimes imitating the “Psycho” behavior she portrays in her song.

“I definitely took a lot of inspiration from times I have gone psycho and went into a deep dive,” admitted D’Amelio. “Who is this girl? Who are you talking to?”

According to the singer, she would do it for herself and her friends: “We will find out every single girl this guy’s talking to in under 15 minutes, and I feel like most girls can do that. We have a special FBI talent.”

Steven Gomillion directed the music video, which follows Dixie as she falls into various phases of “psycho.”

The video, which alternates between the singer’s everyday look and her darker alter-ego, eventually depicts how a person may easily behave out of character depending on the actions of others.

According to D’Amelio, this is “by far her best video performance-wise.” During the video shooting, the actress even had a fashion mishap with her shoe heel.

“It was a platform with screws in it, and it all just undid, and I didn’t even realize because I was so into it,” she says. “And I thought that was really funny.”

Who Is Billie Eilish’s “Lost Cause” About?

With a cool, Hot Girl Summer kiss-off, Billie Eilish dumps her former beau in “Lost Cause.”

The 19-year-old pop sensation launched her new track and music video for “Lost Cause” on Wednesday (June 2). Happier Than Ever is Eilish’s upcoming sophomore album, and the song is the fourth single from it.

In the song, Billie sings about an ex-boyfriend who was meant to be there for her on a particular day but wasn’t.

Here’s a short snippet of the song’s lyrics:

“You weren’t even there that day

I was waitin’ on you (You, you)

I wonder if you were aware that day

I sent you flowers

Did you even care?

You ran to shower

And left them by the stairs.”

Eilish admits in the lyrics that she believed her boyfriend had his “s**t together,” but she was mistaken. He’s a lost cause, she says, and their relationship “ain’t nothing like it once was,” she adds, noting that he doesn’t even have an actual job.

Fans have assumed since the song’s debut that it was based on Eilish’s ex-boyfriend, Q (a.k.a. Brandon Adams, better known as the rapper 7: AMP), who was referenced in the singer’s Apple TV+ documentary.

In Billie Eilish’s Apple TV+ film, there are a few instances when her boyfriend at the time, Brandon Quention Adam, either didn’t show up or came extremely late to events Billie invited him to. It’s probable that the pre-chorus references to that.

Eilish stated in the documentary that she “just wasn’t happy” in the relationship.

Eilish said in the film that “I didn’t want the same things he wanted and I don’t think that’s fair for him. I don’t think you should be in a relationship super excited about things that the other person couldn’t care less about. And there was just a lack of effort, I think. I literally was just like, ‘Dude, you don’t even have enough love to love yourself, you can’t love me. And you don’t. Like, you think you do.'”

Eilish even admitted to feeling “lonely” and “miserable” during Valentine’s Day, as per Insider.

Adams addressed their split in an Instagram Story in March 2021.

“There’s always 2 sides to a situation,” he wrote, further stating that he was going through a lot at that time, including his brothers’ death. “Sometimes people disagree and don’t want the same things as one another. It’s on you to understand there’s several points of view to a situation.”
